AMYLON | ZONAL URBAN PLAN FOR PROTECTED BUILT AREAS

Our first major industrial site regeneration project started with a Zonal Urban Plan for heritage protected areas (PUZCP) for the most north-eastern brownfield sites along the river Cibin.

This project is Sibiu’s pilot for both a consistent, structured and open dialogue between all the stakeholders and a balanced, high-mixity development with an eye to wider surroundings than the site itself.

Something about the project.

The urban regeneration of the AMYLON site in Sibiu was the first tackle of the post-industrial areas in the direct vicinity of the historic centre.

Although the actual property had been already cleared of buildings almost two decades prior, the economic, social and cultural impact had to be carefully addressed. Thorough, wide-angled analysis suggested leaning towards a varied use of the future development. We imported to Romania and  piloted the Urban Design Management (UDM) methodology for public participation, a process we now constantly use (see URBAN co:LAB).

The very long process, specific to novel approaches and delicate sites, allowed for a solid concept growth – by the end of the PUZCP procedure, a full-fledged masterplan with design manual and details book were also provided by our extended team.
